How to Delete Mods in Minecraft Bedrock
How to delete mods in Minecraft Bedrock starts with a correction: Bedrock has no mods folder — it has add-ons. What people call a Bedrock mod is a behaviour pack, a resource pack, or a .mcaddon bundle containing both, and removing one is a different job from deleting a .jar out of a Java Edition mods folder.
There are two levels of removal, and most confusion comes from doing one and expecting the result of the other. Switching a pack off inside a world stops that world using it, but leaves the pack on your device for every other world. Deleting it from the game's Storage screen removes the downloaded copy, but a world that already had the pack applied can carry its own copy inside the save. A complete removal usually means both.
The steps below go platform by platform: what works everywhere, then Windows 10 and 11 (including the folder that moved in 2025), then phones and tablets, then consoles. If you are on Java Edition — no Marketplace button on the title screen — you want the Java removal guide instead.
Every platform: back up the world first
Taking a pack out of a world changes that world, and Microsoft's add-on documentation does not describe what happens to blocks, items or creatures that came from a behaviour pack once it is gone. Treat removal as something you might want to undo, and make the undo possible before you start.
Bedrock can export a world as a single .mcworld file. The Minecraft Wiki notes that exporting on Windows zips the world into a .mcworld automatically, and opening that file later imports it back as a separate world. The export option sits in the world's settings, alongside duplicate and delete.
- Export the world to a .mcworld file and keep it somewhere outside the game, such as a Documents folder or cloud drive.
- If export is not offered on your device, duplicate the world from its settings and remove packs from the copy, not the original.
- On Windows, copying the minecraftWorlds folder is the belt-and-braces option — Microsoft Learn recommends saving a copy of it before installing a new build, and the same logic applies here.
- Write down which packs the world uses before you change anything, so you can put them back in the same order if the world misbehaves.
- Test the result in the copy for a few minutes — walk to the areas where you used the add-on's content — before you trust it.
Every platform: switch an add-on off in a single world
This is the gentlest removal and the right one when you want an add-on gone from one save but still installed for others. Microsoft Learn describes imported packs as appearing in a Behavior Pack tab or Resource Pack tab when you edit a world; removing one is the reverse of activating it.
Menu labels have shifted between Bedrock versions, so the steps describe what each screen does rather than promising exact button text.
- From the Play screen, open the world's edit settings rather than loading the world.
- Open the Behavior Packs tab and find the pack in the list of packs currently active on this world.
- Select it and deactivate it, so it moves back to the list of packs available but not applied.
- Repeat in the Resource Packs tab. Many add-ons ship as a matched pair, and the resource half can stay active after the behaviour half is gone.
- Load the world and check it. If something is wrong, reactivate the pack, or restore your exported copy.
Every platform: delete packs from the device with Settings > Storage
To get rid of add-ons completely, rather than hiding them from one world, use the Storage tab in the game's main Settings. It is the one removal tool that works the same way on Windows, phones, tablets and consoles, and it needs no file access at all.
According to the Minecraft Wiki's description of the Bedrock settings screens, Storage lists worlds, world templates, resource packs, behaviour packs and cached data. Each pack shows its name, description, size and version, and packs can be selected and deleted one at a time or in bulk with a select-all option. Like Global Resources, it is only reachable from the main menu, not the pause menu.
- Leave any world you are in and go back to the title screen.
- Open Settings and choose Storage.
- Open the Resource Packs or Behavior Packs list.
- Select the packs you want gone — or select all, if you are clearing every downloaded add-on.
- Choose delete and confirm.
- Check the Cached Data list as well: it holds packs downloaded from servers you have joined, which never appear in the pack lists.
Windows 10 and Windows 11: deleting packs through the com.mojang folders
On a Windows PC — Windows 11 Home included, the steps do not differ by edition — you can also delete packs as files, which is useful when a pack does not show up in Storage or the game will not reach the main menu. Microsoft Learn calls the data folder com.mojang, and it is hidden by default: in File Explorer's View options, turn on Hidden items and File name extensions first.
The folder moved. Microsoft's article on the GDK migration explains that from Minecraft version 1.21.120 the Windows build switched from UWP to GDK, and that existing content should be copied over to the new folders. Close Minecraft fully, press Win+R, paste the path for your build and press Enter.
- behavior_packs and resource_packs hold finished packs that were imported, such as a .mcaddon you opened. This is where most downloaded add-ons end up.
- development_behavior_packs and development_resource_packs are meant for packs being built or edited. Microsoft notes the game re-reads them each time it launches, so a pack placed there by a creator tool or tutorial will reappear until its folder is deleted from here.
- Each pack is a folder. Open its manifest.json in Notepad if the folder name is a meaningless string — the name and description fields tell you which add-on it is.
- Move the folder to your desktop rather than deleting it outright. If nothing breaks after a session, delete it for good.
- If you still have the old UWP folder from before the migration, it is the previous build's data. Clear packs from the GDK folder, which the current release uses.
Bedrock data folders on Windows, per Microsoft Learn
Current release (GDK, from 1.21.120):
%appdata%\Minecraft Bedrock\users\shared\games\com.mojang
Minecraft Preview (GDK):
%appdata%\Minecraft Bedrock Preview\users\shared\games\com.mojang
Old UWP builds (before 1.21.120):
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang
Pack folders inside com.mojang:
behavior_packs resource_packs
development_behavior_packs development_resource_packs development_skin_packsAndroid, iPhone and iPad
On phones and tablets, use the in-game Storage tab described above. It is the supported way to remove add-ons on mobile, and it avoids digging through a file system that iOS does not expose for this purpose anyway.
Android has one wrinkle worth knowing. The Minecraft Wiki notes that Android's Storage settings include a file storage location choice: the game's com.mojang data can live inside the locked application folder or in external storage, and data stored in the location you are not currently using cannot be accessed. If the Storage lists look emptier than you expect, check this setting before assuming your packs are gone.
- Delete from Settings > Storage, not by deleting the original .mcpack or .mcaddon download. The download is only the installer; deleting it leaves the imported pack in the game.
- To remove add-ons from one world only, use the world's Behavior Packs and Resource Packs tabs as on any other platform.
- Worlds you imported as .mcworld files may carry their own packs inside them — see the last section.
- Reinstalling the app is not needed to remove add-ons, and it puts locally stored worlds at risk when Storage already does the job.
Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch
Consoles have no file browser for Minecraft data, so everything happens in-game. The same Settings > Storage screen handles it: open the behaviour and resource pack lists, select, delete.
Two things behave differently on console. First, much console add-on content arrives from servers and Realms rather than being imported, and that lives under Cached Data. Second, a lot of console content is Marketplace content bought with your account.
- Packs from a server or Realm you joined: Settings > Storage > Cached Data. Clearing it removes the local copy, but it does not change what the server itself uses.
- Packs on a Realm world: Microsoft Learn describes add-ons reaching console players because they are applied to the world uploaded to the Realm, so the pack has to come off that world, not just off your console.
- Marketplace items: deleting them from Storage removes the downloaded copy to free space. It does not cancel or refund a purchase. Refund and purchase questions go to Minecraft Support at help.minecraft.net.
- A Marketplace world is a world like any other once downloaded: back it up if you care about your progress, then delete it from the Storage worlds list.
- If Storage shows no delete option for a particular purchased item, ask Minecraft Support rather than wiping all game data, which would take your worlds with it.
After removal: the copy inside your world, and what to check
Deleting a pack from Storage or the com.mojang folders does not necessarily remove it from worlds that used it. Microsoft Learn notes that each world folder in minecraftWorlds contains its own resource and behaviour pack folders for packs in use in that world, and the Minecraft Wiki adds that a world_behavior_packs.json file in each world records which packs are enabled for it. This is why an add-on can seem to come back after you deleted it: the world kept its copy.
So the complete order is world first, device second. Deactivate the pack in every world that uses it, then delete it from Storage. Done the other way round, a world can still reference a pack the device no longer has.
- Open each world that used the add-on and confirm its pack tabs no longer list it as active.
- Walk to areas where you placed the add-on's blocks or met its creatures, since problems may only show up when that part of the world loads.
- If the world will not open or looks wrong, restore the .mcworld export from the first section rather than trying to repair the save.
- On Windows, a world that keeps reviving a pack can be checked in its own folder — but editing world files is a last resort, and only on a copy.
Questions people actually ask
- How do I completely delete mods in Minecraft Bedrock on PC with Windows 11 Home?
- Deactivate the add-on in every world that uses it, then delete it from Settings > Storage. For anything left over, close the game and check behavior_packs, resource_packs and the development_ folders in %appdata%\Minecraft Bedrock\users\shared\games\com.mojang, the current path Microsoft Learn gives for GDK builds. Windows 11 Home behaves the same as any other edition.
- How do I uninstall Minecraft Bedrock mods without uninstalling the game?
- Use Settings > Storage from the main menu and delete the packs from the Resource Packs and Behavior Packs lists. There is nothing to uninstall in the Windows sense, and reinstalling the game risks your worlds.
- How do I remove all downloaded add-on data at once?
- In Settings > Storage, open each pack list and use the select-all option, then delete. Clear Cached Data too, since packs from servers are stored there. Make sure you are not in the Worlds list when you select all.
- Why does an add-on come back after I deleted it?
- Usually because a world still has it. Worlds keep their own copies of the packs they use, so deactivate the pack inside the world as well. On Windows, a pack sitting in a development_ folder is also reloaded every time the game starts.
- Will deleting a behaviour pack break my world?
- It can change it. Microsoft's documentation does not say what happens to content that came from a removed pack, so export the world to .mcworld first and check the result in a copy.
- Is there a mods folder in Minecraft Bedrock?
- No. Bedrock uses add-ons, stored in behavior_packs and resource_packs folders inside com.mojang. Forge and Fabric are Java Edition only and do not run on Bedrock, so there is no mods folder to clear.
- Can I delete a Marketplace world or pack and get my Minecoins back?
- Deleting it from Storage only removes the downloaded copy. It is not a refund. For refunds and purchase problems, contact Minecraft Support at help.minecraft.net.
- Where did the Bedrock folder go on Windows?
- Since version 1.21.120 the Windows build uses GDK, and Microsoft Learn lists the data folder as %appdata%\Minecraft Bedrock\users\shared\games\com.mojang. The old path under %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe belongs to UWP builds.
